The Community Mental Health Teams Both the adult team and that for elderly patients link closely with the practice. In addition to specially trained nurses, the teams include occupational therapists and social workers. They liase closely with the clinical psychologists and psychiatrists. Physiotherapists Our visiting physiotherapy team treats a variety of muscle and joint problems and will give people advice how to prevent recurring problems too. Most of the treatments can be carried out in the surgery, but for some conditions it is better for people to attend the physiotherapy department at the hospital. In exceptional circumstances it may be possible for one of the community physiotherapists to visit people in their homes. Referral to the physiotherapist is usually by one of the doctors. Podiatrist The podiatrist and footcare assistant visit the practice and hold regular clinics for those with specific foot problems and for people with certain long-term conditions, such as diabetes, who need specialist help with the care of their feet. Unfortunatly no routine nailcare service is available. Appointments must be made by a referral from either a doctor or nurse. |
