Short-Term Disruption to Routine Blood Tests

Due to factors beyond our control we must limit the number of blood tests that we are able to take due to a world-wide shortage of blood tubes that are required for taking the blood . All practices across in this area are experiencing similar problems.  Currently the only blood tests we are able to carry out due to the shortage are clinically urgent.

Examples of clinically urgent testing include:

    • Bloods that are required to facilitate a two week wait referral
    • Bloods that are extremely overdue and/or essential for safe prescribing of medication or monitoring of condition
    • Bloods that if taken could avoid a hospital admission or prevent an onward referral
    • Those with suspected sepsis or conditions with a risk of death or disability

Important Patient Information - Updated 19th July 2021

We are aware of the planned move to lifting the remaining Covid restrictions in England from the 19th of July.

Medical settings are a higher risk environment and will need to be subject to more control measures than other public facilities.

We are acting very cautiously and are maintaining:

  • Social distancing
  • Face coverings
  • PPE for healthcare staff

The delta variant is more transmissible and patients may come to the surgery when they are contagious.

It is our duty to do all we can to keep both our patients and our staff safe whilst we deliver our care.  Please continue to wear face coverings when attending the surgery.  This is particularly important if you are suffering from a respiratory condition.

Thank you for your understanding.

๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’‰VACCINE UPDATE! ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ’‰

Please note that Dorset Council have made the decision 19th July 2021, that parking in the Market Car Park, Dorchester will no longer be free of charge for the clinics.  Patients attending the clinic will now need to buy a ticket if they park in the car park.  Volunteers will not be responsible for making sure patients have bought a parking ticket.

NHS England are also sending letters to patients about Alternative Vaccination Sites  (we have no control over these letters being sent to patients).  The Alternative Vaccination Sites are at the Bournemouth International Centre and Morrisons in Yeovil – if you already have an appointment through your GP at The Atrium Health Centre, please attend that appointment. This will prevent wasted appointments that the NHS cannot fill at short notice.

But we want to be clear that this is just another option.  If you receive one of these letters, you do not have to have your vaccination at the BIC or in Yeovil.  If you would rather have an appointment closer to home, you can choose to do that, and your local GP-led service will be in touch soon to offer this.

Text message Concerns  - Some patients have been concerned about the text message invites they have received - spotting a scam:

The COVID-19 vaccine is free of charge on the NHS.

The NHS will never ask for:

  • your bank account or card details
  • your pin or banking password
  • copies of personal documents to prove your identity such as your passport, driving licence, bills or pay slips

If you think you have been a victim of fraud or identify theft, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
